Cellist

Violoncellist Dmitrii Prokofiev was born in Moscow. In 2003, he graduated from the Moscow Conservatory and in 2005 he passed a post-graduate course with Professor Natalia Gutman. He was a prize winner in a number of international young artist competitions, including the Tansman (Poland 1998), Tchaikovsky (Russia 2002), and Janigro (Croatia 2008) competitions, among others. He recorded his first CD at the age of sixteen with professor of the Moscow Conservatory Alexey Nasedkin (Sonatas for cello and piano by Shostakovich and Grieg).  In 2004, he issued a CD with pianist Alexander Kobrin that contains music of Claude Debussy, Johannes Brahms, Robrt Schumann, and Niccolo Paganini.

He holds various ongoing professional positions: from 2008, as cello instructor at the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory; from 2015, as principal cello of the Montenegro Symphony Orchestra; from 2016, as cello instructor in the Music Academy of University of Montenegro; and from 2018, as the artistic director of “Ars Industria”  in Montenegro.

His recitals have been in cities throughout Russia and overseas in such prestigious halls as the Auditorium du Louvre and the Philharmonie in Paris, the Rudolfinum in Prague, the Philarmonie in Luxembourg, and the Berliner Philarmonie. As a soloist, he has performed with symphony orchestras in Russia conducted by Igor Golovchin, Mark Gorenstein, Vladimir Spivakov, Yuri Bashmet, Alexander Rudin, Valery Polyansky, and Leonid Nikolayev. He is a regular participant in international music festivals in Russia, Montenegro, Finland, Germany, France, Georgia etc.

As chamber musician, he has played with Vladimir Spivakov, Natalia Gutman, Jessye Norman, Eliso Virsaladze, Nikolai Lugansky, Edward Brunner, Jean Guillou, Natalia Shakhovskaya, Ilya Gringolz, Alexander Kobrin, Mikhail Simonyan, Olga Kern, Mikhail Lidsky, Ekaterina Skanavi, Elena Revich, Dmitrii Kaprin, Ratimir Martinovic,Nikolai Sachenko, Polina Osetinskaya, Vladimir Milosevic, Andrey Gugnin, and many others.

Since 2000, he has been a performing artist in the State Chamber Orchestra “Moscow Virtuosi” under the musical direction of Vladimir Spivakov, and has been a soloist in the Moscow Virtuosi Quintet since 2003.
